Andrew Ross Winery "The Huntsman" (Columbia Valley) - Opening with black currant and strawberry jam, with subtle notes of dried herbs and spices. It's smooooth, too, and is your perfect Tuesday night and/or party wine. 96% Cab and 4% Petit Verdot, mostly from Quintessence Vineyard on Red Mountain, which makes this an even more amazing value.
- Oak Farm "Tievoli" (Lodi) - We've become big fans of this Lodi winery the last couple of vintages. Oak Farm may be primarily known for their fantastic Zin based wines, but owner/winemaker Dan Panella has just released the new Tievoli Cabernet, and it is a real stunner. deep garnet in color and composed of complex aromas of black currant, cedar, and vanilla. The wine is full bodied with echoing aromas on the palate, and the finish is abundant in textured tannins, yet smooth and velvety.
Juggernaut "Hillside" (California) - Representing California as a whole is Bogle Family's Juggernaut. A big and bold Cabernet that lives up to the name and comes from Bogle's best, higher altitude vineyards that combines loads of big black currant, plum and dark cherry fruit with bold yet beautifully integrated, well oaked, smooth tannins.
- Halter Ranch (Paso Robles) - Paso used to be known for producing great Rhone varietal wines, but lately a number of producers have begun to produce Cabernet Sauvignon of quality to rival the best produced anywhere else in the world. A classic California Cabernet profile with aromas of dark cherry, vanilla and graphite-like minerals. Bright and fresh on the palate, this wine has flavors of red and black currants, plum and finishes with mellow, toasty oak tannins accented by hint of pencil shavings.
- Ascent (Sonoma) - Andrew Geoffrey producer Peter Thompson lucked into some spectacular fruit when a grower acquaintance had a buyer back out at the last minute. Peter was able to purchase this fruit from a vineyard just below Pride Mountain Vineyards' Sonoma side property at an incredible bargain. It would have gone into a wine 3 times the price of the Ascent, and this 2012 vintage wine is just drinking incredibly now. Opulent blackberry, red plum, and red cherry aromas are laced with minerals, cola, and chocolate. This mountain-grown Cabernet Sauvignon gains density on the mid-palate with more black fruit, cassis, licorice, and black olives.
- Barnett Family Vineyards (Napa) - The Barnetts and winemaker David Tate have a huge following among our staff and Taylor's regulars. Big black raspberry jumps from the glass as well as blueberry jam and black pepper. There is a bright chocolate element surrounded by cedar notes and the mouthfeel is rich and lush with a lot more dark fruit as well as cigar box and mocha. Tannins are significant, very big and chalky and reward a little time to breathe, mellowing into a finish long with black raspberry, mocha, leather and toasted oak.
