Venge Vineyards 2014 Silencieux Cabernet Sauvignon
Parker has given some lofty scores to the past 3 vintages of the Silencieux (2011 - 92, 2012 - 95, 2013 - 95) and with the high quality of the 2014 vintage, we expect it to score just as high (if not higher). This wine is full bodied and powerful, opening with aromatic anise, scents of sweet cassis, blackberries and smoky coffee that lead to a concentrated and lengthy finish. A fantastic wine now, but will reward with 10-12 years of patient cellar time. Buy now because the 2014 production was 40% off last year's production and we're able to offer it at $10 off the suggested $55 retail.
There are lots of great Cabs out there, especially from the recent string of fantastic California vintages resulting from the drought. There are also a lot of high scoring Cabs out there, an unusually high number right now because of the high quality of the recent vintages. And as time goes on there are more and more winemakers, wineries and wines that have "pedigree" and established track records. But rarely these days can you find a wine that has all of these qualities AND is a great value.
The father and son team that owns Venge, Nils and Kirk Venge have a history making some of the finest wines in Napa. Father Nils was the winemaker at Groth when they received the first ever 100 point score for a California Cabernet. Son Kirk now heads up the winemaking at their namesake label (and many other top tier wineries) and has emerged as one of the Valley's most talked about and sought after young winemakers.
