Noah River (California) – By far and away, this is our best-selling Pinot Noir and has been for some time. A label created by one of our favorite distributors, Henri Gabriel of Advintage Distributing, who teamed up with one of their favorite winemakers, Jamey Whetstone of Whetstone Wine Cellars, to create Noah River. Jamey is known for making incredible, but pricey Pinots at Whetstone, but he has proven with Noah River that he knows how to craft great value too. Alluring and intoxicating aromas of vibrant black cherry, pomegranate, cardamom, steel, savory garrigue undertones. Perfumed with black cracked peppercorn, deep rose, dark chocolate powder, kirsch and sandalwood. Beautiful and vibrant, fresh layers of sultry fresh blueberry, rich dark plum skin, cinnamon with a savory underbrush.
Albert Bichot Vieilles Vignes Bourgogne Rouge (Burgundy) - Albert Bichot is one of Burgundy's more well known and respected negociants and has access to lots of fantastic properties and growers. They use this buying power to craft incredible value wines from Burgundy's top Cru appellations down to everyday wines. It's becoming increasingly difficult to find delicious Burgundy under $30, so we're really excited that we can offer this one around the $20 mark. Bichot's VV Bourgogne Rouge offers a very clear, fresh and juicy bouquet of red and dark berries, black cherries and sour cherries. For a "simple" Bourgogne rouge, it offers an impressive depth and balance with a freshness that remains defining until the last moment and is combined with the slightly wild, earthy note so typical of Burgundy.
Aberrant Cellars "Confero" (Oregon) - Oregon's Willamette Valley produces some of the USA's most renowned and sought after Pinot Noirs. Our top wine from this amazing growing region is Aberrant Cellars' Confero. Potent cherry and black raspberry scents are complemented by suggestions of violet, musky underbrush, and cocoa powder. Chewy and tightly focused on entry and then more supple in the midpalate, offering appealingly sweet red and dark berry flavors and a touch of bitter chocolate. Finishes long and chewy, with resonating florality; subtle, steadily building tannins add framework and support.
Birichino "Saint Georges" (Central Coast, CA) - When reading about or talking to CA and OR Pinot producers you often hear them say that they're "Burgundian" in style, techniques, influence, flavor profile... But very few actually end up tasting like a real Burgundy wine. This one really does and the first time we tried it we would have bet money that it was a French Pinot that probably cost in the $40-$50 range. Boy were we surprised when we found it was California (not even Oregon!) and sold in the $20's. Gorgeous aromas and color are the first clues to the delights that await inside the glass. The nose is highly fragrant with aromas of cherry, raspberry jam on toast, and sous-bois. Relatively light in weight, but highly flavorful, offering plenty of well-spiced cherry and raspberry goodness. Soft and delicate in the mouth with modest tannins and a raspberry-infused finish of some note.
L'Oliveto (Russian River, CA) – For most lovers of California Pinot Noir, the state has a few hotspots for the varietal. If you like your Pinots on the fuller bodied side, then Sonoma's Russian River Valley is likely your favorite Pinot source. Our current best seller from here is L'Oliveto's excellent offering. Bright purple/red in the glass with a nose that is fragrant with aromas of red cherries, dried figs and toasty bread. The palate is elegantly wound with fine tannins and a creamy texture, fruit compote, clove and a touch of vanilla round out a long finish.
Taylor's Wine Shop's "Rocking Chair" (Santa Lucia Highlands, CA) - One of CA's other Pinot hot spots is the Santa Lucia Highlands, known for combining the deep fruit flavors of Sonoma & Napa Pinot with the earthy undertones and vibrant acidity normally associated with Oregon Pinots. For our very own Pinot, we worked with winemaker Ed Kurtzman (Roar Wines, August West) who crafted this fantastic Pinot for us using fruit from the Santa Lucia Highland's Cortada Alta Vineyard. It is a rich and dark Santa Lucia Highland Pinot Noir that has classic notes of black cherry cola, rhubarb, forest floor and a hint of smoke.
