There's a chill in the air and time to reach for heartier reds and whites.  Our November mixed case is a blend of fantastic, food friendly wines that will be perfect to serve with Thanksgiving dinner and bold, full flavor wines that will help take the edge off fall's cooler nights.

This month’s case includes 1 bottle of each wine (3 whites, 1 rose & 8 reds):

    EQ Sauvignon Blanc (Chile) – It's finally back in stock.  "Matetic's Sauvignon Blanc has a great quality/price ratio, and even the top-of-the-range 2019 EQ Coastal Sauvignon Blanc sells for under $20. They want a Sauvignon for the table, one that combines freshness and volume. They fermented part of it in used barrels and concrete, and it matured with the lees for four months in barrique and concrete eggs. This is more restrained—not as aromatic, less herbal—but the palate is terribly juicy and mineral, focused and makes you salivate. - 93 points Parker's Wine Advocate"

    Tussrock Jumper Chenin Blanc (South Africa) – Chenin Blanc is one of the classic turkey pairings and South Africa is making some of the world's best and best value Chenins right now.  Medium-bodied with aromas of apple, gooseberry and citrus, there is a strong presence of mineral and lemon on the palate, leading to a very dry finish. This dry style Chenin will go well with fish, poultry and any food pairing that you might normally serve with a Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio/Gris.

    d'Arenberg The Stump Jump White (Australia) – For over 100 years now, d'Arenberg has been one of Australia's most important producers.  Their signature wines like Dead Arm Shiraz, Coppermine Road, and The Ironstone Pressings are among Australia's most sought after and iconic bottlings, but for sheer value and pleasure, their Stump Jump line reigns supreme.  The latest Stump Jump White is no exception and is a perfect fall white that in the glass shines in a light yellow hue. This cuvée of Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Marsanne & Rousanne reveals a whole basket of aromas in the nose with lime and other citrus nuances are to be heard as a matter of priority. The Sauvignon Blanc is reserved, but still noticeable with tropical fruits and a very fine expression of herbs. The Rhône partners Marsanne and Rousanne make an enormous impression. These provide depth and complexity with stone fruit, melon, papaya and raw almonds. The palate of this Australian white wine with its lush fruit and opulent mouthfeel is balanced by a beautifully integrated acid.

    Bodegas Muga Rioja Rose (Spain) – Rioja Rose is one our favorite "new classic" Thanksgiving pairing wines.  Opening with a pretty nose of flowers, especially rose petals, and almonds. Fruit aromas come through well too, red berry fruits, wild strawberries together with some creamy vanilla notes. On the palate, there’s a soft full attack, quite succulent followed by lovely acidity that balances out the first impressions of fruitiness. The wine then develops beautifully with a tangy, refreshing finish. 

     Domaine du Joncier "LO" Lirac Rouge (France) - Domaine du Joncier is a vineyard of 32 hectares, passed from father to daughter currently run by Marina Roussel.  Organic since 2008 and Demeter certified biodynamic since 2010, the wines produced from the estate's hand harvested fruit utilizing native yeasts and with minimal intervention.  This lovely, Grenache Lirac shows the ripe, Provençal style of the vintage and is medium to full-bodied, has a wonderful bouquet of mulled red and black fruits, black licorice, violets, and peppery garrigue, loads of fruit, a good sense of freshness, and solid length on the finish.

    Rock Point Pinot Noir (Oregon) –There's lots of mediocre, mass produced, sub-$20 Oregon Pinot Noirs but good ones from guys like Del Rio Vineyards/Rock Point are much harder to locate.  The captivating aromas of the Rock Point Pinot Noir echo the rich wilderness and beauty of Southern Oregon's Rogue Valley with echoes of cedar and pine tree forest, mocha, dark toast and woodland strawberries. Supple tannins, balanced acidity and toasted oak texture the savory mouthfeel.

    Allegrini Palazzo della Torre (Italy) - Palazzo della Torre is Allegrini’s take on the Valpolicella 'Ripasso' method; however it is made from a portion of grapes dried specifically for this wine and not from the the Amarone pomace as is the case in other expressions. The portion of grapes that are dried do so in the 'Terre di Fumane' drying centre, to intensify the character of the vineyard. The wine spent 15 months in second-use barriques, and was blended together for two months, then aged for a further seven months in bottle before release. A blend of Corvina (40%), Corvinone (30%, Rondinella (25%) and Sangiovese (5%) Palazzo della Torre offers enticing aromas of dried cherry and hints of cloves, cinnamon and vanilla. The palate is velvety in texture, well-balanced and offers ripe, juicy dark fruit, with soft tannins and refreshing acidity.

    Ona Marselan (Spain) -  You may not be familiar with the grape Marselan, but after trying this one you'll wonder why it isn't more popular.  The varietal, a relatively new grape, is a cross between Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon that came about in the early 1960's.  Low yields are probably the main reason it isn't more popular, but it produces intense fruit with vibrancy and freshness that has seen a new breed of winemaker begin to plant the variety across the Mediterannean.  Ona's Marselan is a very complex and full-bodied wine, but balanced and aromatic at the same time. It is rich in light and harmonious tannins. It evokes aromas of blackcurrant, raspberry, ripe fruit, cocoa, plums, raisins, smoky notes, notes of pepper, spices and licorice.  Just 415 cases of this delicious and unique wine were made. 

    El Goru Gold (Spain) – Our 2nd Spanish wine in this month's sampler is a returning favorite, El Goru Gold, from Bodegas Ego.  The new, 2017 vintage is another amazing wine that tastes like it should cost 3-4 times as much and received a whopping 93 points from Wine Spectator.  This red is sleek and solid, in the modern style. Bright cherry, berry and currant flavors mingle with licorice, black tea and mineral notes, giving way to a floral and minerally finish. The firm tannins are well-integrated and juicy acidity keeps this li Mourvèdre, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah blend lively.

    Hierogram Zinfandel (California) – The grape may have had its origins elsewhere, but Zinfandel is one of, if not the only, truely American wine style wine and is therefore a great choice to pour at Thanksgiving.  If you're like most families, there's going to be a multitude of foods and flavors on the table and no single wine will pair perfectly with everything, so serving a crowd-pleaser like this bold and juicy Zin is a great choice.  Solidly built and fruity without seeming sweet, this full-bodied wine combines concentrated flavors with a firm structure of fine-grained tannins and supportive acidity. Light oak touches add interest, but the wine's power and appeal come from bold varietal-fruit flavors.Concentrated and complex, this full-bodied wine overflows with ripe berries, black-pepper and beef aromas that continue in the generous flavors. A big broad mouthfeel, full body and mild tannins all add to an impression of richness.

    Good Measure Cabernet Sauvignon (Washington) – Another returning favorite, Good Measure is textbook Washington State Cabernet Sauvignon.  Dried blueberry, strawberry jam and a touch of cocoa on the nose lead to concentrated dark red fruit flavors of freeze dried raspberry, black plum, and strawberry lozenge on the palate. The finish is long and round with lingering notes of black licorice, clove and cocoa.

    Chronology Red (California) -"From nine counties across California, the 2017 Chronology Red is made up of 32% Petite Sirah, 22% Merlot, 13% Syrah, 13% Grenache, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Mission, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Mourvèdre and 1% Petit Verdot. Aged 20 months in 16% new oak, it has a deep garnet-purple color and features bold blackberry preserves, baked plums and Morello cherries with suggestions of Indian spices, Sichuan pepper, dusty earth and menthol. Full-bodied, rich and decadently spicy, it has a velvety texture and long, lively finish." 91pts Parker's Wine Advocate
