Morgan 2019 Double L Vineyard Chardonnay

$ 36.99 $ 46.99
Dan Morgan Lee is one of the most influential grape growers and winery owners in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA.  His "Double L" vineyard is regarded as one of the best in the region and the wines he makes from it are consistently ranked among California's best.  Planted in 1997, it is certified organic and mostly planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with 1 acre each of Syrah and Riesling.

Winemaker Notes

The grapes were picked when the flavor and acid balance was optimal, then hand-sorted and gently pressed to yield the highest quality juice. The juice was fermented in French oak – 31% new and a combination of one & two year old barrels. Full malo-lactic and lees stirring were conducted to obtain a medium+ body, balanced by fresh acidity.

Notes of pineapple, toffee, and toasted brioche are echoed on the palate by dried pear and baking spices. One of the finest food wines, the Double L Chardonnay will pair wonderfully with seafood and poultry dishes, but is rich and bold enough for meat dishes such as a buttery steak.

Critical Acclaim

94 Wine Enthusiast
Toasted macadamia nut, baked peach, coconut and sea salt aromas make for a heady entry to the nose. The palate is cut by a tangerine-rind tartness that gives balance to the creamy apricot and cherimoya flavors as that salty character carries through the finish.

92 Wine Spectator

Lemon meringue, yuzu and apricot cobbler flavors are generous, intense and focused, with details of peppery white flowers and fresh citrus zest and ginger flavors on the long, juicy and expressive finish. Drink now.
