Italics 2016 Coombsville Proprietary Red
"A Glass of Wine is a Taste of the Earth's History"
A layered nose of fresh raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, cocoa, chocolate and coffee bean. A black raspberry attack, leads to a layered mouth of plum, black cherry, roasted marshmallow, fresh cocoa, and fresh tea leaf. Dark chocolate shoulder tannins melt into a lingering silky aftertaste of blackberry.
This blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon and 48% Merlot is Italics' Proprietary Estate Red blend from the wonderful 2016 vintage.
One main thing that sets Italics apart from other Napa Valley Estate Vineyards is the soil. Here in Coombsville the soils are a result of volcanic eruptions that occurred some three to five million years ago.
The Vaca Mountains, which form the backdrop of Coombsville, were forced up by plate tectonics, taking layers of sediment up with them. When they reached a height they could no longer sustain, the hillsides came crashing down into the flats. This is the land we farm.
