2013 Pick Up Sticks is a powerful example of the iconic Hudson blend. Perfectly ripe cherries, with a bit of pepper and bitter chocolate. A wine of uncommon intensity in 2015. This is the most intense version of this wine to date. It would be great to see it in 5 years...but will be hard to keep your hands off it now.
The 2013 vintage produced exceptionally delicate and aromatic Grenache, atypically we blended in a small amount of the richer “press fraction” juice which added a bit of plumpness to the mid pallet. The Grenache and Syrah were fermented separately in stainless tanks with a max temperature of 80°F to keep from blowing off the aromatics. The Viogner was whole cluster pressed and fermented in French oak and stirred weekly for 8 months for added complexity. The blend was assembled after one year in barrel and spent another 7 months in 2 year old French oak . Bottled in February 2015. - Winemaker’s comments by Christopher Vandendriessche
