Herb Lamb Vineyards 2014 "HL" Napa Cabernet Sauvignon
*NET Priced Wine"
Herb Lamb Vineyard is a bit of a legend of Howell Mountain, responsible for so many great wines from the likes of Colgin, Karl Lawrence, and Tor Kenward. In 1988, Herb and Jennifer Lamb arrived at their seven-acre slice of land in the foothills of Howell Mountain in St. Helena with big dreams. This rocky hillside, ranging from 600 to 800 feet in elevation, was cleared and wide terraces were graded in preparation for planting. By 1991, Michael Trujillo of Karl Lawrence Cellars had discovered the unique quality of the Lambs’ fruit for inclusion in his new wine venture. The following year, Ann Colgin selected Herb Lamb vineyard as the sole source for her signature wine, and continued to purchase Herb Lamb fruit for 15 years. Now celebrating over 25 years of winegrowing in the Napa Valley, the Lambs have fulfilled all their original dreams.
94 points James Suckling
Blackberry, fresh-mushroom and bark aromas follow through to a medium to full body, dusty tannins and a savory finish. Beautiful finesse and tension to this wine from an iconic vineyard. Drink or hold.
Notes of cassis, currant leaf and cherry mingle with the signatures of new oak, introducing a rich, full-bodied wine; textural and quite extracted, with firm mountain tannins in an impactful style. This north-east facing site in the foothills of Howell Mountain came to fame as a source for Colgin Cellars. (WK)
