Domaine du Joncier is a vineyard of 32 hectares, passed from father to daughter currently run by Marina Roussel in the Lirac district of Southern Rhone, right next door to the famous (and much more expensive) Chateauneuf du Pape district. Organic since 2008 and Demeter certified biodynamic since 2010, the wines produced from the estate's hand harvested fruit utilizing native yeasts and with minimal intervention. Grenache leads the charge in the blend here – giving rich, ripe aromas of strawberry fruit, macerated cherries, thyme, and lavender. There’s also a serious side to the wine, with some earthy, meaty notes coming from the Syrah, that really open up with time in the glass. Smaller amounts of Cinsault and Carignan round out the blend adding nuances of spice and floral aromatics.
