Decero 2014 The Owl and the Dust Devil Red
This fantastic Malbec based blend comes from the Decero winery's high altitude Remolinos vineyard. The name comes from two unique features to this vineyard - The vineyard takes it's name, Remolinos, from the dust devils that routinely appear and protect the grapes from disease causing moisture and excessive heat, and from family of Lechuza owls that have taken up residence there and chase real and imagined (the Remolinos) pests from the vineyard.
The wine is a full bodied, bold blend of 43% Malbec, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Petit Verdot and 8% Tannat that were hand harvested and selected berry by berry for this singular wine. Aged for 18 months in small French oak barrels, it's rich and well-structured, with loads of minerality adding to the abundant pepper-accented dried raspberry and red plum fruit flavors. Hazelnut, mocha and vanilla details linger on the plush, cream-filled finish.
