Croze 2014 Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
This wine has some of the most exquisite bones to be found in Napa Valley. Winemaker Daniel Benton sources the fruit for this luscious Cab Sauv from the vines of Oakville’s Money Road Ranch, the vineyard that provided fruit for the first American wine to land a coveted 100 point score from Robert Parker, Jr. Benton makes the most out of these exceptional grapes, creating an elegant yet decadent expression of layered complexity and metronome-calibrating balance. Distinct, enticing aromatics of black currant emanate from its dark violet hue. The notes expand upon the palate amid a full, luscious mouthfeel, as berry, tobacco, and dark chocolate seductively reveal as the wine’s layers spread. Supple tannins guide the experience to a ultra-lengthy finished marked by hints of toasted oak, vanilla, and chocolate covered graham cracker. It’s a limited production label that deftly upholds the principles of Croze proprietor and region-defining winemaker Gary Wooten’s legacy, all while standing out on its own merit.
