Booker Vineyard 2017 My Favorite Neighbor Cabernet Sauvignon
Booker is one of the top producers in the increasingly buzzed about region of Paso Robles, and one of our favorites at Taylor's. The name comes from the fact that the Booker family's vineyards are planted to Rhone varietals, so when they wanted to produce a Cabernet based wine, they looked to their friends and neighbors who they knew grew great Cabernet Sauvignon fruit. This is hands down one of the best California Cabernets you can buy for under $100, which is pretty remarkable since it has scored 93-99 points from Wine Advocate every year its been made for 11 straight vintages.
This year is another stunner, 93-95 points Wine Advocate, 97 points Jeb Dunnuck:
Jeb Dunnuck Review
The 2017 My Favorite Neighbor is in the same ballpark and offers terrific notes of crème de cassis, tobacco leaf, lead pencil shavings, and cedary herbs. It's a full-bodied, silky, impeccably balanced beauty that has just subtle background oak, a stacked mid-palate, and terrific purity of fruit.
Wine Advocate Review
A barrel sample blended of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Syrah and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2017 My Favorite Neighbor Proprietary Blend is deep garnet-purple in color and a little cedary to begin, giving way to fragrant blackcurrants, black cherries and black raspberries with touches of spice cake, Sichuan pepper, violets and hoisin. Full-bodied, densely packed and with velvety tannins, it delivers tons of tightly wound flavors, finishing long.
