Andoni's Spanish & Portuguese Sampler Case
$170 Value for $142
We have lots of great distributor reps that you guys love tasting with and learning from. Andoni Uroz, owner of Spanish and Portuguese wine distributor Uroz Beverage, is definitely one that we get questions about when he will back to taste again as soon as he finishes a tasting.
Unfortunately Covid has kept us from doing our tastings over the last few months, so we thought it might be fun to let Andoni pick some of his favorite wines and offer them in a sampler pack for everyone to do their own tastings of his amazing wines.
The mixed case includes:
2 bottles - Bodegas Perica 6 Cepas (Rioja, Spain) - This delicious Rioja comes from one of our favorite, small, family owned producers in Spain, Bodegas Perica. Their Vina Olagosa Crianza and Reserva Riojas have been shelf staples for years and always over-deliver on the price/quality spectrum. The new 6 Cepas is no different. Sitting somewhere between a Rioja Tinto and Rioja Crianza, the wine sees some time in oak, but not much of it new and not the full 6 months required for Crianza. The result is a Rioja that it much more complex than your average Tinto for about the same price. Intense ruby red in color, the palate is a harmonious combination of red berry notes with those of spicy and toasty nature. Strong structure combines with soft tannic expressions for a long, pleasant bouquet.
2 bottles - Palestra Tinto (Douro, Portugal) - A sensational value made from the incredible 2015 traditional Porto grapes (40% Tinta Franca, 40% Tinta Roriz, 20% Tinta Barroca) in a dry, full-bodied style and has aged beautifully for an expensive red. The medium bodied blend is elegant and silky, but still in possession of lovely plum and raspberry fruit accented by tannins have mellowed nicely, buried within the ripe red berry fruits that are edged with a more concentrated meaty character.
2 bottles - Pardusco Vinho Verde Tinto (Vinho Verde, Portugal) - Pardusco was the name given to the first red wines, which were exported to England in the 14th Century. This wine is a tribute to that glorious past. This red Vinho Verde is made from a blend of Vinhao, Pedral, Brancelho and Borracal. The wine has a spicy, mineral driven nose to compliment the lovely crunchy red berry aromas. The palate is light and bright with tons of freshness that is super easy to drink & a lively finish.
2 bottles Fonte de Serrana (Alentejo, Portugal) - A blend of 70% Alicante Bouschet and Trincadeira, this wine is made with a nod to the past, foot-trodden in stone lagares where it is allowed to ferment for a week, then run off into large wooden vats where it stays for 2-3 years, and rested in bottle for an additional 2-3 years before release. Intense and exuberant, jammy black fruit, ripe olive, herbal and spice aromas and flavors swirl within a savory structure that is somehow fresh on the palate, well-balanced and delicious.
1 bottle - Visconde de Borba Reserva (Alentejo, Portugal) - Dark garnet, almost opaque and an incredibly lovely this nose of dark fruits, earth, spice, vanilla, oak and plum. Swirl and sniff for a little bit and you'll get something new every time. On the palate, the spice and dark fruit take the lead with the oak rounding out the fruit nicely.
1 bottle - Santola Vinho Verde (Vinho Verde, Portugal) - It may be one of the cheapest wines in his portfolio, but it is probably the one he's know for the most. "The Crab Wine" as most people call it (because of the bright orange crab on the label) is almost too easy to drink, and an unbelievable value for just $9. It is as if while you were eating the most delicious juicy green apple you've ever had, it suddenly came to life and jumped out of your hand onto luscious green grass of a spring day and rolled around laughing and squealing in delight.
1 bottle - Cabriz Dao Colheita Selecionada Branco (Dao, Portugal) - Crafted from 4 Portuguese varietals that few people have ever heard of, all you need to know it that it is absolutely delicious and only 10 bucks a bottle. bright yellow color, with greenish highlights. On the palate it is a wine of great aromatic intensity, where aromas of pears, green apples and citrus fruits predominate. In the mouth, it is very fresh with mineral nuances. It is a very harmonious, elegant and balanced wine.
1 bottle - Pazo Pondal Leira Albarino (Rias Baixas, Spain) - Intense and complex nose where floral and menthol notes very characteristic of our vineyards appear, are also combined with an elegant mineral note, as well as citrus and white fruit touches. The palate is medium-bodied sweet, while fresh, fruity notes and very nice balsamic notes, which give a long and pleasant finish.
