Acumen 2013 Mountainside Red Wine
Lovers of Napa Cabs and Cab based blends take note. Acumen is a new producer on Atlas Peak that you should keep your eye on and stock up before the prices catch up to the quality, because we think it won't be long before these wines will command triple digit prices. 2013 is the first release for the Acumen label, a project that boasts some of Napa most impressive winemaking and grape growing talent. The vineyard was planted by Dr Jan Krupp, who also planted and developed the famous Stagecoach vineyard. The wine was crafted by the late Denis Malbec (Kapscandy, Capture, Charles Krug) and vineyards overseen by Steve Matthiasson (who has taken over winemaking duties with Malbec's passing). A unique blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Tempranillo, the Acumen 2011 Mountainside Red Wine is a gorgeous wine from the prized red and iron rich volcanic soils that have become the benchmark for Napa's finest wines. Aromas of violets, dark cocoa powder and espresso complement the rich flavors of fresh cassis, juicy black cherries, and hints of cedar, forest floor, and blackberry leaves. Big, silky tannins make this an incredibly food-friendly wine.
