Great Value Reds Mixed Case – June/July 2022
$220 value for just $149
Lots of new fun stuff in our latest Great Value Sampler cases for the first half of the summer. A couple of full bodied reds that will go great with summertime grilled fare and some lighter reds that won't overwhelm when you're looking for a red to sip on at the end of a long, hot day.
The mixed case includes 2 bottles each wine:
Matthew Fritz "MF" Pinot Noir (California) - From Matthew Bonanno and Fritz Stuhlmuller, a couple of guys who use their longstanding, California wine family connections to source great fruit a great prices to create the MF wines. We've liked lots of wines from these guys over the years, but our current favorite is the latest version of their Sonoma Pinot Noir, a medium ruby red that has a nose dominated by ripe wild strawberry and rose petal, and layered with soft scents of tea leaf, balsa wood, and cardamom. The palate is ripe in the mouth and filled with lush red cherry and strawberry, with traces of cured meat and white pepper in the mid-palate. The finish has mouthwatering acidity and medium tannin.
Isla Grand Reserve Cotes Du Rhone (France) - The Isla is tank-aged, 50/50 blend of Grenache & Syrah and is medium-bodied, elegant and superbly layered. The nose is outstanding with its beautiful dark fruits, crushed rock, earth and underbrush-styled aromatics. The medium bodied yet richly flavored palate offers plenty of dark berry fruits as well as notes of garrigue, pepper, and cedary herbs. With good depth of fruit and a seamless texture, enjoy it alone or with your favorite pork, poultry or veggie dishes.
60 Clicks Shiraz (Australia) - A really expressive, bright, contemporary Aussie red. This Shiraz comes from a sun-dappled vineyard in northwest Victoria. The nose of soft, open, chocolatey fruit has a clove note with a palate of fresh brambly, cherry-red fruit that leads to a gently spicy finish. Great with a BBQ in the summer.
Feudi di San Gregorio Rubrato Aglianico (Italy) - Consistently one of southern Italy's top value/top scoring wines, the 2017 received a 93pt rating from James Suckling and a 91 from Wine Enthusiast. Pretty impressive for a wine that we're selling for $15, crafted from a grape that few Americans are familiar with. That grape is Aglianico (pronounced al-Yan-i-koh) an ancient varietal grown on the volcanic soils in the foothills surrounding Mt Vesuvius. Chewy and savory, this smooth red doles out ripe black-cherry, juicy blackberry, licorice and baking-spice flavors.
Ghostrunner Red (California) - No Zin in this vintage of Ghostrunner, the 2020 is a dark, decadent blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah and Merlot It shows a dark ruby color with an aroma that’s rich in mixed berries and black cherry preserves. Hints of spice including black pepper and bacon carry through on the palate. This decadent red blend finishes with soft tannins, dark fruit and toasty, vanilla soaked oak.
Long Valley Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon (California) - This fantastic, estate grown Cabernet is from Monterey, where the long, cool growing season allows all aspects of the grape to ripen fully where they can be harvested at the perfect balance level between fruit, acidity and tannins. Aromas and flavors of blackberries, blueberries and ripe plums are well-integrated with toasty oak spice, vanilla and mocha. This full-bodied wine exhibits beautiful dark fruit, a plush, round mouth-feel, soft tannin structure and a lingering black fruit finish.750ml x 12
