Birichino 2016 Saint Georges Pinot Noir
Now this is Pinot Noir! Birichino was started in 2008 by two Randall Graham (Bonny Doon) former assistants and disciples Alex Krause and John Locke. Like Graham, they strive to create elegant, complex and food friendly wines from carefully selected sites and growers, using minimally invasive winemaking techniques. We've been impressed with everything we've tasted from Birichino (we also have their Vin Gris Rose in stock), but the 2016 St Georges Pinot Noir is something special.
Lots of producers outside France like to label themselves and their wines as "Burgundian" in style, but few actually achieve it. Gorgeous aromas and color are the first clues to the delights that await inside the glass. The nose is highly fragrant with aromas of cherry, raspberry jam on toast, and sous-bois. Relatively light in weight, but highly flavorful, offering plenty of well-spiced cherry and raspberry goodness. Soft and delicate in the mouth with modest tannins and a raspberry-infused finish of some note.
