Pedroncelli Bench Vineyard Merlot (Dry Creek, Sonoma) - This small, family owned winery has been making great value wines for almost 100 years now and has long been one of our favorite Sonoma producers. Aromas are rich and enticing with hints of spice and ripe berries. Flavors of red plum, black tea and warm baking spices are show- cased with a light oak toast and mocha notes. Medium bodied with rounded tannins follow through to a savory and lingering finish. A beautifully balanced wine.
Chateau Platon (Bordeaux, France) - Château Platon is the property of the Meynard and the Gauthier Dumas families - from the Right Bank's Saint Emilion and the Entre Deux Mers respectively. With vines over 40 years old, grapes have excellent richness and flavor intensity in this Merlot based Bordeaux. Candied violet, wild strawberry, red cherry, turned soil and a pleasantly leafy note emerge on the nose. A lively acidity carries bright notes of frais du bois, candied cherry and tangy plum skin. The finish brings into focus blue fruit flavors with dashes of plum, loamy earth and velvety tannins.
Revelry Vintners (Columbia Valley, Washington) - Revelry is the brainchild of northwest native Jared Burns. Jared, drawing on a unique and experience filled upbringing, adopted wine as personal passion at a young age; the son of self-made entrepreneur Dennis Burns, founder of Pro-Tec Helmets, Gargoyles Sunglasses, and the inventor of the synthetic wine cork.
Harvesting fruit throughout the Columbia Valley's distinct and varying micro climates, from the Wahluke Slopes to the Red Mountain AVAs, and employing both traditional and modern winemaking tradition, creating wines of uncompromising quality at unparalleled value. This Merlot exhibits ripe blueberry and the fresh acidity of cherries with undertones of cocoa and toffee notes. It is an incredibly balanced wine from front to back with an exceptionally smooth quality on the palate.
Bisci Rosso (Marche, Italy) - "The 2018 Marche Rosso blossoms in the glass with a pretty display of dusty rose, incense, strawberries and cedar spice box. It’s silky-smooth, almost creamy in feel, with depths of ripe red berries, licorice and sweet inner herbal tones, all energized by vibrant acidity. A coating of fine tannins punctuates the expression well, as this tapers off lightly structured and perfumed. There’s so much balanced pleasure to be found in this blend of 80% Merlot to 20% Sangiovese. However, I recommend another year of cellaring for it to fully blossom. - 91pts Vinous"
Chateau Vieux Cardinal Lafaurie (Lalande de Pomerol, France) - Pomerol is one of Bordeaux's most famous and expensive appellations, home to Petrus, Lafleur and Le Pin (among others) is also one of France's smallest appellations. Just north of Pomerol is another Merlot based appellation with similar terroir, Lalande de Pomerol, less famous, yet much more reasonable prices. Our current favorite is Vieux Cardinal. A firm and tannic wine that will become fine, structured and rich. Blackberry fruits come from the dominant Merlot in the blend, which is perfumed with Cabernet Franc. It is a ripe wine, juicy with acidity and finishing with a solid, concentrated aftertaste.
Provenance Merlot (Napa, California) - Silky and elegant, this Napa Valley Merlot gracefully reveals its fruit-driven character of ripe cherry and blackberry compote. Hints of dark chocolate and hazelnut meld with a savory edge of pipe tobacco and bay leaf. The well-knit acidity enlivens the mouth-filling flavors, while supple tannins frame the wine and give age worthiness. Complex baking spice nuances weave through this Merlot's generous varietal expression.
