Vinos de Terrunos "Benaza" Godello
Godello is a grape varietal of northwestern Spain was practically extinct by the 1970's as "international" varietals such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio dominated winery offerings the world over. Starting in the 1990's winemakers and winelovers began to rediscover local, regional varietals and Godello is once again on the rise. Vinos de Terrunos' "Benaza" Godello is one of the most compelling white wines we've tasted lately, This white has some swagger and is full of smoky vanilla notes over a frame of pear and melon fruit flavors, while accents of tarragon, ginger and white pepper add interest. Dense yet lively, not elegant but bold.
