Sauvignon Blanc is one of France's "Noble" grapes and has been making fantastic wines there since the 1500's (or at least that's when the name first appears in print).  Since then it has spread around the world to just about every wine growing region.  The great things about Sauvignon Blanc is that it expresses itself very uniquely given different growing conditions.  Meaning New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs taste very different than the original Loire Valley, France examples, which taste very different than ones grown in California and so on.

Sampler includes 1 bottle each:

Patient Cottat Anciennes Vignes Sancerre (Loire Valley, France) - Many consider Sancerre as the benchmark for dry style Sauvignon Blanc from France.  Sancerre is all about the soil, which is mostly limestone and flint.  These minerally soils create crisp wines that often display notes of briny minerality along with fruit notes of citrus, pear  and melon, plus sweet hay, grass and herbs.   Patient Cottat uses only their oldest vines to craft this bottling.  Rich white fruits with tangy acidity are balanced by apricot as well as red-apple flavors lifted by bright minerality.
Saint Clair Family Estate Dillons Point Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough, New Zealand) - About 20 years ago New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs took the world by storm and today it is the most popular style of Sauvignon Blanc.  In the Southern Hemisphere and especially in New Zealand, Sauvignon Blanc's pink grapefruit notes really express themselves strongly and the zippy acidity that the wines have are mouth wateringly refreshing.  Not only are they delicious, most are very affordable with all but the rarest and best ones going for over $25.  The St Clair family is one of Marlborough's most meticulous farming and winemaking families.  They have identified over 140 different blocks in their vineyards, which they farm and ferment separately.  Known for delivering a full spectrum of layered, intense, and pure flavors, the the Dillon's Point opens with expansive aromatic notes of tropical guava and pineapple with hints of fresh-cut green grass. Appealing weight on the crisp palate brings concentrated flavors of ripe passion fruit, green bell pepper, fresh currants and white grapefruit with a refreshing hint of salinity on the long, persistent finish.

Les Hauts de Lagarde Bordeaux Blanc (Bordeaux, France) - France's other stronghold of Sauvignon Blanc is Bordeaux, where white Bordeaux is typically a Sauvignon Blanc based blend.  In Bordeaux, the Sauvignon Blanc is often blended with small amounts of Semillon and/or Muscadelle, with Sauvignon Blanc usually at least 50% of the blend unless a dessert wine is being made.  Les Hauts de Legard is 60/40 Sauvignon Blanc/40% Semillon, crafted from the winery's certified organically farmed vineyards.  The beautiful texture, yellow hay aromas and tropical fruit flavors come from the Semillon that it when blended with Sauvignon Blanc make a wonderful combination and foil for the tart, crisp apple and grapefruit flavors of that grape.
Green Quartz Sauvignon Blanc (Casablanca Valley, Chile) - Like most of the Sauvignon Blancs grown in the southern hemisphere, grapefruit a predominant flavor, but not the sole note that this wonderful wine hits.  Sourced from high altitude, hand-picked vineyards in Chile’s Casablanca Valley, this vibrant Sauvignon Blanc will appeal to both New Zealand and California Sauvignon Blanc lovers, as it deftly splits the difference between zippy, tangy NZ style grapefruit notes with tropical and grassy notes associated with California’s best Sauvignon Blancs.
Oak Farm Sauvignon Blanc (Lodi, California) - This tastes like a Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc or a fraction of the price that you usually have to pay for Napa.  This Sauvignon Blanc captures fruity aromas of citrus, mango, and a touch of lime mixed with pyrazines and earthy characteristics like freshly cut grass and hay. On the palate, these citrus notes are complemented by tropical fruit flavors of guava and passion-fruit. The wine is balanced with crisp acidity and juicy flavors with a lingering finish.
Inurrieta "Orchidea" Sauvignon Blanc (Navarra, Spain) - This unique Sauvignon Blanc from Spain is a bit of a chamelion and doesn't project a single, classic Sauvignon Blanc identity.  Instead at various temperatures and food parings it will taste different and express different notes, tasting Sancerre-ish at times, New Zealand-ish sometimes, and often rather California like.  Which is what we love about it.
