100 Points! - Jeb Dunnuck: “Pure Napa Valley genius, comes from a vineyard on Pritchard Hill, just across from Colgin, and is all Cabernet brought up in around 80% new French oak. Stunningly pure notes of black currants, blueberries, iron, crushed rock, and an almost meaty, bloody quality emerge from the glass, and this beauty is full-bodied, with a multi-dimensional, layered mouthfeel, loads of tannins, and a great, great finish. This flawless, heavenly Cabernet is going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and cruise for 20-30 years in cold cellars. “
97+ Points, Wine Advocate: Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Melanson Vineyard displays deep garnet purple color, bursting with perfumed notions of crushed black currants, wild blueberries, Morello cherries and red roses, plus suggestions of wild sage, mossy barks and lilacs. The palate is medium to full bodied and elegantly styled with a finely knit structure of firm, ripe tannins, and refreshing bright fruit sparks, finishing wonderfully nuanced and minerally. This is a stunning expression of Pritchard Hill. 225 cases were made.
Winemaking & Tasting Notes
Thanks to an excellent set, early fruit stability, and true ripeness, the 2018 Pulido~Walker Melanson Vineyard Cabernet is an exemplary wine. It is intensely colored, with framing acidity and tons of structure. This vineyard does best with a long hang time—the longer we get to ripen the tannin, the better the result. 2018 is a prime example of what we’re aiming for with well-integrated tannins, including a somewhat expansive mid palate and no clipping of the finish.
