Sometimes in the heat of the southern summer, a big, bold, tannic Cabernet Sauvignon is just too much and not refreshing enough. What's a red wine lover to do? Reach for a lighter bodied, softer tannin, higher acidity red that you can serve with a chill! Most of us drink our reds at room temperature, a little bit above perfect serving temperature, but there are many red wines that are actually great when served chilled. Chilled, not cold (50-55 degrees for most) reds are fantasticly refreshing this time of year, but not all reds reward refrigerator time. Cabs, Merlots and blends based on grapes with bold tannins or wines aged in oak will become bitter when chilled, so check out these delicious higher acidity, medium bodied, low tannin wines and serve them with a good chill!
