Mayu Pedro Ximenez
Pedro Ximenez may be best known for forming the base of Sherry in Spain, but it is also widely cultivated in South America for the production of the distilled spirit Pisco. When vinified into a dry table wine, the results provide a refreshing surprise - suggestions of fresh Brazil nuts, vegetal aromas, and a bit of brine are anything but Sherry-like flavors. If the austerity of Loire Valley Muscadet appeals to your palate, but you prefer the texture & weight of Grenache Blanc or Viognier, this juice might be the answer.
The 2019 Pedro Ximenez is one of the few wines produced with this variety in Chile, but nobody is ever sure if it's exactly the same PX as in Spain. Anyway, the grape seems quite neutral and transmits the conditions of the place and vintage. 2019 was a very good overall vintage in Chile, and the wines tend to keep good freshness and moderate alcohol. This is not super expressive on the nose, and on the palate, it's serious, dry and mineral, balanced and restrained. It's very tasty and finishes dry. 63,200 bottles produced. It was bottled in October 2019.
