Ian Brand Wines 2016 Le P'tit Paysan Cabernet Sauvignon
Unlike Zinfandel vines that remain vigorous enough and produce enough fruit well into their second century, Cabernet Sauvignon vines rarely get over 50 years old before they need replacing. That said, given the right climate, soil type, root stock, clonal stock... some Cabernet vineyards do make it to old age and still produce enough fruit to that you don't have to charge hundreds of bucks and can still reap the benefits that old vines give you.
For this bottling, Ian has found pockets of old vine Cabernet Sauvignon throughout San Benito County and crafts them into this Bordeaux look-alike. If you are a fan of big and juicy Cabs like our best selling Juggernaut and Treana Cabs, then this one isn't for you. But if you're looking for something that has elegance, complexity, earthy/leathery tannins that won't overpower your meal but beautifully compliment it, then this definitely IS for you.
"Warm aromas of baked red cherry and caramel grow more complex due to a gravelly minerality and hints of peppercorns on the nose of this bottling by Ian Brand. The palate leads with dark red fruit accented with dried Italian herbs and the rocky minerality continues, leading into a cocoa-laced finish. It is a lithe and lively style of Cab. - 91 points, Editor's Choice award winner, Wine Enthusiast"
